Again this year, Educa offered early childhood educators from New Zealand, Australia and North America the chance to win a place on a New Zealand Study Educational Tour, hosted by Kelly Goodsir.

We are delighted to announce that Judi Stevenson-Garcia is the lucky winner and will be heading over to New Zealand in November 2019!

Judi brings with her a wealth of experience as an educational specialist in both Rhode Island and New Jersey. She is currently a Senior Manager for Content Development at the National Center for Early Childhood Development, Teaching and Learning. In this role, Judi oversees the development of resources that support early childhood educators in Early Head Start and Head Start programs.

Judy claims she rarely wins anything and was so excited to learn that she was this year’s winner.

Judi’s Entry

In her online entry, Judi wrote: “I  believe in the child- and spirit-centered approach implemented by New Zealand early learning programs and would value the opportunity to learn from them in person.“

Judi came across the contest in her ongoing research on learning story assessment after one of her colleagues visited New Zealand.

“I’ve always been interested in assessment and supporting teachers in being intentional about collecting data on young children.”

Judi looks forward to visiting the life and culture of New Zealand that serves as the foundation for inspirational early childhood education programs. She is especially interested in the ways New Zealand supports different cultures and languages through narrative assessment.

On the tour, Judi will attend a professional development day featuring Wendy Lee and others and will visit a variety of centers to experience first hand New Zealand’s early childhood curriculum and pedagogy.

We look forward to sharing highlights from Judi’s trips in the next few months. From everyone here at Educa, thank you so much to all who entered and congratulations, Judi!
